Getting Ready To Work With Dingo

We are assuming you have already installed Dingo, have added at least two menu items to your User Menu and have realized there's not much to do in the backend. Unlike Taskhopper, the Frontend is where you will spend most of your time, so that's where we've put all the controls.

If you are not yet at this point, go back to that step first.

Here we will cover the basics of getting new users ready, then adding one client and one project.

1. User Profile

The concept of Dingo is to help foster a work environment of being together while being separate. The user profile is where you provide some contact info about you, your location, how to contact you...

After the first login, you will see a link asking to be clicked.

Add some info

When you are done, scroll back up a bit and hit Save

Should you need to adjust anything, look for the tiny head-looking icon

Taskers Online

When you are the first to log into Dingo, you will appear in this list. As other members login (Authors or above) they will also appear. This tells you who is online at that moment, not a list of everyone in the system.

Adding Client #1

To begin, we need one client. Assuming we are working with you, the Admin, your control panel screen will have two rows of Dingo links. The top will be visible only to those given Joomla backend rights. Start by clicking the Clients link so we can add one of those.

Start with the New button

The Client/Owner Screen

Projects are generally "owned" by clients. So in most cases within Dingo, we will be referencing project owners as clients. Dingo wasn't really built for any particular industry or type. As long as you refer to those you serve as clients, then so far, you should feel right at home.

You can enter more if you like, but one is all we need for now... The CPANEL link will take you back to the Dingo control panel

Project #1

With at least one client, now we can create the first project. Remember there are only three "things" that Dingo keeps track of: Clients, Projects and Items

Now we will add one project, to our one client.

Then just like with Clients, click the New button to add a new Project

Fill it out something like this, ignore at least two fields within:

When you're done, save it! (for now, you will see empty columns for Bgd and Hrs... ignore those until later as they're optional)

Project Resources

When a project is created, one resource is added to that project. That one resource in the above example would be Ginger. What's a resource? A resource is anyone who you want to work on this project. Unlike Taskhopper, there are no messy assignment of individual rights. Either a tasker can work on a project or they can't. e.g., There is no view-only type of access to a project.

Once a project is created, the next step is usually to add resources so those supporting the client can work on project tasks.
Then just like with Clients, click the New button to add a new Project

Fill it out something like this, ignore at least two fields within:

When you're done, save it! (for now, you will see empty columns for Bgd and Hrs... ignore those until later as they're optional)

To Add Another Resource to a Project

For our purposes, assuming you selected yourself as the project manager, you don't need to do this now... but just in case you are curious about how you might get some help on a project here's how it works:

Scroll to the bottom of the project screen and look for the tiny green + next to the dropdown that should contain others in your system.

When you're done adding a resource, we are officially done with the two items needed to start working with Dingo. (Adding a client and a project)

Head back to the Dingo Control Panel...
