There are only four reasons you don't get more business. This is not about Joomla or any other CMS. It's got nothing to do with open source or Michigan-based technology. It's likely something that was talked about long before online digital marketing was around.
1. They Don't Know You Exist
Google yourself. Google your business. Google what you do. It's amazing how many individual professionals with a unique name that don't pop on the first page of Google. Ok, if you're Bill Smith, you're forgiven. But if you're Raul Stamos that does roofing in Ann Arbor you better be #1 when that name and that service are the search terms. This is simple to do and costs tiny. There is no excuse for not owning your identity/service. e.g., We expect to be on the first page of any Joomla Michigan search.
2. They Don't Know What You Do (No Call To Action)
95% of the websites out there are clear on what they do. What they often are lacking is a way to get Step 1 underway. It's reasonably easy to explain what you. It takes little effort to compose "About Us" or "Our Services" pages ... but then what? It's imperative to give visitors a way to initiate the relationship. They need a way to do something to stand up and be counted .. "I am here. Talk to me." Request a Quote, Free Trail, Register Here ... give them some simple way to say hello... without obligation, and with a promised response time.
3. The Value Is Less Than The Price
If you are attempting to convert online, then you need your pitch to be compelling. A cheese sandwich will never sell for $100. In general, a sheet of paper will also never sell for that price. However, a treasure map printed on a standard sheet of paper, with a cheese sandwich included has sold many times for that price. So if you are selling something that takes a visitor from stranger to customer/client in one step, then make sure your perceived value is greater than the amount you want them to pay.
4. You Are Not Trusted
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Need evidence? Head to Craigslist. It's an awesome site, but it's filled with false promises. Why does every email arrive with a link to detect fraudulent activity? You know the answer.
Trust is something that's built with time. If your presentation has any hint of too-good-to-be-true then expect high bounce rate. Our favorite that, we assume, with a high bounce rate would be something like this. (However, conversion is all about traffic and if you can get yourself/your product into a national infomercial, then lack of trust might not be a show-stopper)
Look at your current marketing/sales efforts and make sure these never slip under the radar.
